Child must be suffering from a physical or mental disability
Child must have demonstrated exceptional abilities and the need for educational training not available within the V. I. public schools.
The value is $2,000.00 per year not to exceed four (4) years.
Financial Aid for Government Employees?
Applicant must be an active employee of the V. I. Government, must be recommended on a meritorious basis, and must be recommended by the employee’s department or agency head.
Financial Aid for children of former National Guards?
VIRGIN ISLANDS NATIONAL GUARD
This grant is for children, persons under 25 years of age, of members and officers of the National Guard of the V. I. who die or sustain permanent total disability in the line of official duty while on territorial active military duty. The award value is for matriculation fees and tuition at the University of the Virgin Islands and not to exceed four (4) years.
What is Leap?
LEVERAGING EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM (LEAP)
Local federal matching grant for dependent and independent full-time and half-time students. Must have an unmet financial need of at least $500.00. The recipient can receive up to a maximum of $5,000.00.
What is the Morris F. De Castro Fellowship?
Morris F. De Castro Fellowship: Be an employee or official in active service of the Government of the V. I. at the time of application.
Applicant must take one year leave of absence during the period that the fellowship is awarded.
Be nominated by either the governor of the V. I., the President of the Legislature, the Presiding judge of the District/ Superior courts, the Administrator of St. John or the head of the applicant’s department.
The fellowship will be from the district of St. Thomas/ St. John and one will be from the District of St. Croix.
Recipient will receive in addition to their regular salary not less than 50% loan/grant evidenced by a promissory agreement and bearing interests at six percent (6%) per annum.
Fellowship is awarded for one year.
When can I apply for Financial Aid from the Board?
Financial Aid applications are available between the months of January and May of each year. Individuals interested in applying for VIBE financial aid may pick up an application from either board office between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.
Who is eligible for financial aid?
In order to be eligible to receive a grant loan or scholarship from the Virgin Islands Board of Education applicants must meet the following requirements.
Must be a bona fide resident of the V. I.
Must be a graduate from a high school in the Virgin Islands
Must be in financial need
Must have a cumulative grade point average of no less than 2.0
Must be accepted to or attending an accredited institution
What is an endorser?
An endorser is a person who will be willing to take the responsibility of loan repayment on behalf of the applicant in the event that the applicant is unable to repay the loan at the appointed time. This individual must be working or receiving some form of income that will allow them to accept such responsibility.
Who needs an endorser?
All applicants are required to have an endorser. If you do not have an endorser your application will not be processed until you are able to provide one.
