Oswin A. Sewer, Sr. is a product of the Virgin Islands Public School System. He attended the Julius E. Sprauve School on St. John and graduated from the Charlotte Amalie High School on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands in 1965. He obtained a BA degree in Sociology/Anthropology from Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD and a Masters in Education from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.
Member Sewer is his first term as the At-Large member of the Virgin Islands Board of Education. He presently serves as the Secretary of the 15th Virgin Islands Board of Education and is Co-Chair of the School Plants and Facilities Committee. He is also a member of the Professional Staff Certification and Higher Education and the Public and Private Liaison Committees.
Member Sewer retired from the Virgin Islands Public School System after the 1999-2000 School Year. He began his teaching career in April of 1970 at the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School on St. Thomas before transferring to the Julius E. Sprauve on St. John for the 1970-1971 School Year.
Member Sewer was a Vice President of the St. Thomas-St. John Federation of Teachers for twenty-eight years, and was on several the Union’s Contract Negotiating Teams.
Member Sewer is presently employed at the Gallows Point Resort in Cruz Bay, St. John. He is a member of the Virgin Islands Humanities Council and the Virgin Islands Lottery Commission. He holds membership on the Love City Pan Dragons Board of Directors.
Member Sewer who is married to Laurel Hewitt-Sewer, an Educator at the B. C. B. Middle School and a Part-time Instructor at the University of the Virgin Islands is the father of four.
