Virgin Islands Department of Education

The United States Virgin Islands Department of Education is an executive branch of the Government of the U.S. Virgin Islands mandated under Titles 3 and 17 of the Virgin Islands Code. It is the largest governmental entity in the Virgin Islands and it functions as both a Local Education Agency (LEA) and a State-level Education Agency (SEA). The Department is headed by a Commissioner at the SEA level and a District Superintendent at the two LEAs.

University of the Virgin Islands

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) lies in the heart of the beautiful Caribbean. Although UVI is located in one of the most popular vacation spots in the world, it offers far more than just sun, sand and sea. The UVI experience is uniquely multi-cultural, international, entrepreneurial and intellectually stimulating. UVI provides a vital and exciting environment for educating future leaders of the global 21st century community.
Founded in 1962, UVI is a public, co-ed, land-grant HBCU (Historically Black College and University) in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI). Approximately 2,500 students are enrolled on the two campuses: the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix and the St. Thomas campus. The institution offers 47 undergraduate and graduate degree programs across its five colleges and schools.

National School Boards Association

NSBA represents state school boards associations and their more than 90,000 local school board members. We believe education is a civil right, and public education is America’s most vital institution.

WTJX - Channel 12

WTJX Channel 12 is the Virgin Islands Public Broadcasting System. The System is run by a Board of Directors, and the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the System. The basic goal of the System is to advance the general welfare of the community through educational, cultural and public affairs programming, local and national, for the population of the Virgin Islands. The Station’s general policy is set by the Board of Directors. Some oversight duties are exercised by the V.I. Government’s Executive and Legislative branches. The Legislative branch appropriates and the Executive branch allots the majority of the funds necessary for the operation of the System.

Parent Teacher Student Association

For more than 120 years, National Parent Teacher Association (National PTA®) has worked toward bettering the lives of every child in education, health and safety. Founded in 1897 as the National Congress of Mothers by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst, National PTA is a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for public education. Today’s PTA is a network of millions of families, students, teachers, administrators, and business and community leaders devoted to the educational success of children and the promotion of family engagement in schools.

National Association of State Boards of Education

The National Association of State Boards of Education develops, supports, and empowers citizen leaders on state boards of education to strengthen public education systems so students of all backgrounds and circumstances are prepared to succeed in school, work, and life.

Council of Urban Boards of Education

The Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) supports urban school boards, fosters effective school district leadership, and addresses the educational challenges that exist in our nation’s urban centers.
As part of our mission, CUBE creates educational opportunities for urban school board leaders to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to serve as effective local education policymakers and as advocates for excellence and equity in public education.

American Federation of Teachers

The American Federation of Teachers, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO, was founded in 1916 and today represents 1.7 million members in more than 3,000 local affiliates nationwide.

Legislature of the Virgin Islands

The Legislature of the Virgin Islands is the first branch of government. The present Legislature of the Virgin Islands is a fifteen member body in which all the legislative powers of the territory are vested. It enjoys the powers and privileges held by most state legislatures of the Union.
